Broadisland Gathering 2015
August 18 2014
THE 2015 Broadisland Gathering will get off to a piping start this weekend when Major Sinclair Memorial Pipe Band perform at the amphitheatre in Ballycarry.
The band, who recently returned from Glasgow as World Champions in their grade, are no strangers to the Gathering. On Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm they will formally get the Gathering underway with a performance at the amphitheatre.
The organisers are encouraging people to come along and bring a picnic to help celebrate the start of the 23rd Gathering.
Celebrations will also be the focus of a new event, Celebrating Cultures, which will take place in Ballycarry Community Centre on Thursday, September 3 from 7pm to 10pm.
A variety of cultural groups from an Orange, Green and Ethnic community background have been invited to attend the event and during the evening people will have the opportunity to browse around stalls, then enjoy a series of presentations from 8pm. Admission to the event is free.
The previous evening, Orange culture will be in focus with the History Bus trip from the Gathering travelling to the recently opened Museum of Orange History in Belfast. Tickets for the event are £10 and the bus leaves the village at 6.45pm. Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact a member of the community group or email Aldfreck.email@example.com.
The events of the Gathering will also include a children’s disco on Friday, August 28 in the community centre and an Ulster Scots Cookery Night the following Friday, September 4, starting at 7pm. Admission will be £5.00, payable at the door. On the same night there will be a car boot sale at 6pm on the amenity green.
