Templecorran Historical Society meets in centre

Feb 8 2017

THE quarterly meeting of Templecorran Historical Society was held in Ballycarry Community Centre and focused on fraternities in the area and beyond.
Guest speaker at Ballycarry Community Centre was Dr. David Hume, and his talk dealt with traditional fraternities as well as more unusual bodies including the Order of Free Gardeners and the Oddfellows.
Artefacts from Orange Order, Masonic Order, Rechabites, Forresters, Good Templars and others were among those on display at the event; a 1758 Masonic Bible was the oldest item and an Orange banner from Canada was also eye-catching!
The speaker outlined the history of local Good Templar, Orange and Masonic lodges during his illustrated talk
